I recently published the first draft of my Shrinking Universe Theory (read it here), which led to some interesting conversations, which presented some questions that I felt would help readers with understanding and clarity.
For those that want the short version of the theory, I posited that instead of an expanding-outward universe, the universe’s bounds remain constant but appear to be expanding because the elements inside are continually dividing and creating “smaller” worlds, giving the illusion of an expanding universe.
Note: Asking questions is very helpful for further construction of this theory. Please don’t hesitate to ask questions or to provide critical feedback. I do not claim that this theory is correct, I only present it as a feasible alternative to the Expanding Universe Theory (aka Big Bang).
Questions
Wouldn’t we also appear smaller over time if the universe was expanding?
Where did it all come from? How did everything begin?
Is the finite universe infinite?
Question 1
Question: Wouldn’t we also appear smaller over time if the universe was expanding?
Answer: We would, indeed. But scientists have been trying to make sense of an “expanding” universe for ages and can’t seem to make sense of it, so I merely asked the question: What if everything is backwards? Some ancient cultures (maybe even modern) believe that the world we exist in is actually in an inverted state. Yet we, born in the backward nature, are innately wired to perceive the world according to our design, so we continue looking one way not realizing we’re looking the wrong way. But enough with philosphy, let’s look at the theories.
An expanding universe has unresolved issues. Any process of thermal expansion is driven or powered by the energy within. The expansion consumes energy as it goes, meaning over time the energy would be completely consumed and the expansion must cease. But then there comes a new problem, because the gravity of the universe would then cause all things to begin drawing back down on itself, ultimately destroying the entire universe and returning it to a singularity to start again. But in this process, it’s impossible to reclaim 100% of the energy (according to our current understanding of the laws of physics), meaning each subsequent “Big Bang” would expand less and less until there isn’t enough energy to expand at all and the universe would cease to exist.
And this also raises the question of what happens to the escaped energy? If energy can escape, where does it go? Even if 100% of the energy is reclaimed, what is the purpose of the entire thing? Is there a way to survive from one eternity to the next? Could somebody create a vessel that could survive the destruction? And if so, would this not take from the overall energy of the process, causing subsequent expansions to be smaller? And if this realm of “gods” were to continue to grow larger, would that not eventually cause the entire universe to fall apart, ending both the universe and the gods? And, of course, there’s the lingering question of where the singularity came from in the first place…
There have also been some theories that suggest the expansion never ends. But this also has issues of its own. For something to grow indefinitely, it must consume external matter to facilitate its growth. If there’s extermal matter, then all things couldn’t have been contained in a singularity. Yet, there’s always the possibility that there wasn’t one Big Bang but there are countless continually expanding and retracting across an endless space, and each has the potential for endless growth by consuming another. But if this is the case, where did they all come from? Where did everything come from?
A shrinking universe, on the other hand, could be in unending and continual collapse and it wouldn’t matter so long as the rate of creation surpassed the rate of destruction. Since each eternity (the time between generations) produces a smaller world than the last, all a “god” would have to do to survive is learn how to transfer their own consciousness from one body to the next. It’s even possible, through biological processes of cellular division, to create a body (or entire world) that could continually remain created and forever escape the impending destruction at the outer rims.
Question 2
Question: Where did it all come from? How did everything begin?
Answer: All of us exist. This is irrefutable. And there is sufficient evidence throughout world history to conclude that we do not end when we die but continue on in another form. This agrees with the laws of nature, where nothing can be created nor destroyed but instead merely changes from one form to another. And if this is true, then it also means we can safely conclude that we existed before we came here, in another form, for our own energy could never have been created nor destroyed.
Though not as prevalent, there are also stories of people throughout history that saw, heard, or communicated in some other way with a child before that child was born. Jesus Christ is the foremost example of this, but there are plenty of others. I, myself, had a similar experience before my son, Leo, was born. When we were trying to think of names, my wife and I both experienced something at the same time in two different places. She was in the hospital (he was born 2 months early after severe complications) and had a dream of a lion roaring that woke her suddenly, while I was at a nearby gift shop looking for a baby gift and heard a lion’s roar that drew my eyes toward a small stuffed lion. When I returned to the hospital, I said I felt “Leo” should be the name, and she told me her dream and it was settled.
As a historian who studies patterns, I can tell you that all things follow a pattern. Our lives, our history, biological and mechanical processes, laws of nature…everything. And patterns do not cease but repeat indefinitely. For an obvious example: the events going on in the world right now closely follow the events of the French Revolution, as well as the transition of Rome from a Republic to an Empire. In fact, if you want to predict the future, all you have to do is learn the past. I taught this to my students regularly.
The reason I bring this up is because we can apply it to catch a glimpse of what the world was like before this world. In that place, we all existed in the same realm, in whatever form we were in, just as we all exist in the flesh in this world we call Earth. We belonged to families, had friends, could communicate, and more. Granted, without the physical bodies we have now, the way this life proceeded is outside of our comprehension. But more importantly, we came into that world much like we came into this world, through some birthing or creation process where we ascended from that world into the next, becoming entombed in whatever body we were made in and stuck in the new world until we either died and returned to our former world or ascended again into the next. This is important because it confirms that there is a way, whether we understand it or not, to cross from one reality to another, or from one world to another.
To understand where it all began, all you have to do is understand our place. God, a being that knows how to command and organize His own internal body into an endless universe, created the first “singularity,” if you will, by doing nothing more than willing it to appear within His body (or, rather, commanding it to one that can obey). This presents an interesting thought exercise. Close your eyes and what do you see? Darkness. Can you will yourself to turn that darkness into light? Yes, you can. Can you will yourself to then split that mental image into half-light-half-dark? Yes, you can. And if you knew how, you could create internal laws that would manage your creations however you commanded and give them permanence. Or, rather, you could assign another internal entity to execute and enforce those laws, which we understand God’s executor to be Jesus Christ:
“In the beginning was the gospel preached through the Son. And the gospel was the word, and the word was with the Son, and the Son was with God, and the Son was of God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not anything made which was made. In him was the gospel, and the gospel was the life, and the life was the light of men; and the light shineth in the world, and the world perceiveth it not.” — JST, John 1:1-5.
That voice you hear in your head? That’s your Son and your Word. Anything God has, we too have, for we are His children created with all His faculties and potential. God used His Word (aka Jesus Christ) to organize all things in our existence and set them into motion according to the laws designed.
And so, we see, there actually didn’t have to be anything in existence beforehand. God is what existed before, and God learned how to establish laws within to bring this magnificent and mind-boggling universe into existence.
Question 3
Question: Is the finite universe infinite?
Answer: It is both finite and infinite — infinite on the inside, but finite on the outside. As the entire universe exists within the literal body of God, it has whatever finite bounds are set by the finite form of God in the flesh. But we do not exist in that same realm as God, where He is but one of many, physical and tangible. And we exist within Him, with the potential to ascend out into the same realm He exists in, just as our children in the flesh can ascend out and be born in this world.
Continuing the pattern, God can exist within another God, who can exist within another. I cannot say if this is an indefinite pattern, as it brings us to the same kind of question as an expanding universe does: where is the top? Or where is the beginning of the hierarchy? It’s possible God doesn’t exist within another God’s realm, but there’s certainly the possibility He does, or at least that He can.
Fortunately, the shrinking universe theory doesn’t demand that we understand who or what is at the very top, for it posits that all of us can become that entity at the very top if we but learn how to command and organize our internal elements to our desires.
